Writer, editor and artist. Creative director, Logic Magazine
Xiaowei Wang makes work that centers community empowerment, technology and ecology. Their work is driven by a deep seated belief in the political power of being present, in dissolving the universal and categorical. What keeps them up at night: what it means to live in an age of technological anxiety. Some core values: research, design and knowledge building are constant, collaborative processes that require spaces that can hold conflict.
Xiaowei tries to cultivate and nourish community through stewarding spaces, public art, workshops, data visualization and making collaborative tools. They’ve spent the past 6 years as Creative Director at Logic Magazine. Recently, they published a book, Blockchain Chicken Farm (a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice), finished a web art residency with Akademie Schloss Solitude/ZKM and wrote about place + desire for transmediale. Currently thinking through automated censorship, language and publics as part of The Future of Memory. For 2022 Xiaowei will be a Civic Media Fellow at USC Annenberg.
